ISLAMIC STUDIES PROGRAM

MTI is committed to providing a holistic Islamic Studies Program. Students learn Fiqh, Aqeeda and Seerah.

Aneese Adni is the High School Islamic Studies Teacher at MTI. He is a MTI Alumni and has been with MTI for over three years after graduating from Marian University. Mr Adni went to Almaghrib Institute to complete his course in Islamic Studies.

QURAN PROGRAM

MTI has a comprehensive Quran program with four levels in Middle, and High School. Quran program levels begin with learning how to read the Quran, and to memorizing the Quran.

Talal Tabhishi is the Middle, and High School Quran Teacher. Talal holds Bachelor’s degree in Shariah. He has been a Quran teacher at MTI for three years. In the past, Mr Tabhishi also had led the After school quran program.

Pre-School

Our Mission

We believe in implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum that offers age suitable instruction through play. Our Preschool aims to support the natural curiosity and growth in young learners, while instilling in them basic Islamic values to help shape them into becoming lifelong learners both academically and spiritually.

We offer CDF, which is the Child Care and Development Fund. It helps low-income families get child care. The CCDF federal program helps families so that they may work, attend training or continue their education. It aims to increase the availability, affordability and quality of child care.

On My Way Pre-K awards grants to 3 and 4 year olds from low-income families so that they may have access to a high-quality Pre-K program. Families who receive a grant may use it at our approved On My Way Pre-K program.

The Indiana Childrens Bureau has an application that needs to be filled online at https://www.childrensbureau.org/our-services/child-care-services/ . Once approved you will be mailed a letter to interview with the Children’s Bureau. After the appointment, you may bring your approval letter to register your child at our school. If you need additional help, you may contact our office.

General Requirements

  • Children must be immunized.
  • Pre-school: Child must be already 3 years of age as of August 1 of that school year, and has to be fully potty trained.
  • Pre-K: Child must be 4 years of age on or after August 1 of that school year

What are your hours and schedules?

We have a full day Preschool from 7:50 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

At what age do you accept students?

For the 3 year old Preschool class, your child must be 3 on or before August 1 of the current school year.

How do you group children?

Children are grouped by age. Depending on the child’s birthday, they are either placed in the 3 year old class, or the 4 year old Pre-k class.

Does my child have to be potty trained?

Yes, however, we require them to have extra clothes at school incase of accidents. 

What is your child to teacher ratio?

For Preschool -3 our ratio is 10 students to 1 teacher. For Pre-k 4, it is 1 teacher to 12 students. An assistant will accompany the lead teacher in class when our student number exceeds the ratios.

Do you have tours for your preschool?

Yes, tour will be available upon request.

What curriculum or philosophy do you adhere to?

What qualifications do your teachers hold?

The teachers and assistants meet the education and health requirements for people working with small children. We strive to provide our staff with continued education in Early Childhood Education. Each staff member undergoes extensive background checks and also receives CPR and First Aid certification.

What paperwork is required for enrollment?

Please bring your child’s birth certificate and immunization records.

Is lunch provided for my child?

Our school provides free breakfast and lunch to all children.

Elementary School

Curriculum

MTI offers a complete curriculum for Elementary education including:

  • Islamic Studies, Arabic, and Quran.
  • Students take a total of five classes every day, including recess.
  • They have Math, English, Science, Social Studies, Electives, and Recess.

All MTI elementary teachers use Everyday Math, and McGraw hill textbooks. Our Elementary teachers also use Lexia, Accelerated Math/Reading, and Freckle in addition to classroom resources. 

Field Trips: MTI students go on a field trip every quarter. Below are the following destinations that students have visited, and will visit every year. 

  • Conner Prairie 
  • Children’s Museum
  • Indianapolis Zoo
  • Tuttle Orchards

Middle School

Curriculum 

Math

MTI offers an accelerated pace in which students take Pre-Algebra in seventh grade, and Algebra 1 in eight grade. MTI also has after school tutoring for middle school math once or twice a week. 

Literature 

Middle school students read a variety of texts including short stories, drama, poetry, non-fiction articles, speeches, letters and essays in thematic units.  Fiction and non-fiction texts are also part of the curriculum. 

Writing 

Writing is integrated into each grade level in middle school with the tasks increasing in difficulty each year.  Students learn a variety of writing genres including narrative, expository, persuasive, argumentative, and descriptive essays; memoirs, dialogue, speech writing, literary analysis as well as numerous poetry forms.  

Grammar 

In grades 6-8, grammar lessons are included in each unit of the adopted text, Pearson’s My Perspectives.  The grammar taught coincides with the selections in the text and allows the students to see the correct usage modeled before working on their own. 

Vocabulary 

Academic vocabulary is an integral part of the English courses at MTI.  Many of the selections in the text use academic vocabulary from other areas of study such as science, social studies, mathematics, art and music.  

English Language Learners (ELLs) 

About a third of MTI’s middle school students (31%) are English Language Learners. Strategies and adaptations for these ELLs and their language levels are made using the WIDA standards.

Middle Schoolers have field trips assigned throughout the year that are in line with their curriculum.

High School

Graduation Requirements

All students must complete the credits required for Indiana Core 40 Diploma or the Academic Honors Diploma in order to graduate. All transfer credit for on-line and dual credit courses must be received before matriculation.

AP & Dual Credit Classes

AP Classes:

  • AP World History 9th grade
  • AP US History 10th grade
  • AP Government 11th grade

Dual Credit:

  • Computer Science 10 grade 
  • Trigonometry 10th grade
  • Calculus 12th grade

Academic Counseling

Academic Counseling is a pivotal part of the MTI educational experience. MTI will create a personalized plan towards graduation for every student beginning in the 9th grade. Through monthly academic counseling sessions with students and parents, we track this path and adjust as needed over the four high school years, choosing classes that both fulfill requirements and challenge students to reach their highest level.

Our High School Counselor is Amal Shahadeh. Ms Amal has been with MTI for over 18 years, and is deeply committed to the success of our students. She works with all high school students and teachers to make schedules, assign classes, and coordinate in person and online classes. 

College Readiness

MTI’s College Readiness program prepares our students to be ready for college. MTI helps our high school students evaluate potential colleges and universities, research academic and campus life in each institution, and then apply to the schools of their choice. We support our students through the entire process including helping apply for scholarships, aid and other important steps in setting them up for future success.

Intervention and Sheltered Classes 

Intervention

MTI prides itself on the diversity of its student body. Diversity presents academic challenges; students learn, think, and speak in different ways. Our intervention team is here to address those learning challenges. Using reliable assessment tools and scientifically based data, the interventionists design and implement programs to meet the individual needs of students and guide them to higher levels of achievement. Mary Sullivan is the elementary and middle school interventionist. Her focus is on literacy, phonics, and writing skills. Pam Carter is the high school interventionist. Working twice a week with students in the area of ELA, she reinforces vocabulary, grammar and comprehension skills imperative to academic success.

Sheltered Classes

Sheltered classes are offered in the core subject areas of English and science. Teachers of these classes make accommodations and modifications to the main stream academic material. These techniques along with differentiated instruction enable all students to grasp key subject area concepts and engage in meaningful learning activities.
