New School Building

MTI HISTORY

2019

As the MTI enrollment showed steady growth, the school quickly outgrew the school building adjacent to Masjid Al Fajr. To accommodate more students, MTI purchased a new school building with over 80,000 sq feet. It has large classrooms, lockers, and two playgrounds. In addition, MTI now has a cafeteria, auditorium, and full court gym court.

As of late, MTI-School of Knowledge has continued to grow and improve. MTI-School of Knowledge has produced over 14 hafiz of Qur’an as well as developed a girls and boys sports program. In addition, the school has partnered with reputable institutions like Indiana University Purdue University in Indianapolis (IUPUI) and Ivy Tech to provide a college readiness program.

The 2000’s saw an improvement in the academic rigor at MTI School of Knowledge. AP and dual enrolled classes were offered for the first time and students received multiple awards at the National Science Fair, State Math B.O.W.L, and National History Fair. Along with its students’ academic success, further expansion projects completed the current MTI bottom floor and added nine classrooms that currently serve as the middle and high school.

2001

In 2001, an additional MTI-School of Knowledge building was constructed adjacent to Masjid to allow for further growth and included a computer and science lab as well as six large classrooms.

1993

Masjid Al-Fajr was relocated from its downtown location to its current location. The first MTI-School of Knowledge housed six classrooms in the Masjid basement. From 1993 to 2001, the school grew rapidly, surpassed the one hundred student mark, and expanded into a fully operational high school.

MTI BEGINNING

MTI School of Knowledge began as a homeschooling program over 25 years ago by four devoted sisters: Sr. Muslimah Mustafa, Sr. Jamila Al-Khattab, Sr. Mu'mina Blackman, and Sr. Saeeda Amatullah. As the school population increased, the homeschooling grew into an Islamic School in the basement of the Masjid Al-Fajr building in downtown.
