Middle School Curriculum
Math
MTI offers an accelerated pace in which students take Pre-Algebra in seventh grade, and Algebra 1 in eight grade. MTI also has after school tutoring for middle school math once or twice a week.
Literature
Middle school students read a variety of texts including short stories, drama, poetry, non-fiction articles, speeches, letters and essays in thematic units. Fiction and non-fiction texts are also part of the curriculum.
Writing
Writing is integrated into each grade level in middle school with the tasks increasing in difficulty each year. Students learn a variety of writing genres including narrative, expository, persuasive, argumentative, and descriptive essays; memoirs, dialogue, speech writing, literary analysis as well as numerous poetry forms.
English Language Learners (ELLs)
MTI has certified ESL teachers who lead our English Language Learner program. Strategies and adaptations for these ELLs and their language levels are made using the WIDA standards.
Field Trips
Throughout the year, middle school students participate in educational field trips that enrich their learning and provide valuable real-world experiences.
